Description of activities
The harbour at Ramsgate was subject to schemes of improvement from 1749 onwards, with crucial development between 1776 and 1787. Ramsagte Harbour appears to have had strategic significance for London shipping in general, not simply for the Baltic trade, and the Trust attracted several prominent London merchants, including Sir Richard Neave and Alexander Aubert, as well as Anthony Calvert. The Ramsgate Harbour Trust became the Ramsgate Royal Harbour Trust in 1820.
