Royal Exchange Assurance
Founded in 1720 and one of the two incorporated bodies (alongside London Assurance) permitted to underwrite marine insurance, an arrangement that lasted for a century. Royal Exchange Assurance merged with Guardian Assurance Company in 1968, and the merged company is now a subsidiary of the French insurer Axa.
